SAVE THE DATE! – City Manager Breakfast

The Annual City Manager Breakfast is coming March 28!  City Manager Mark Jinks will brief Eisenhower Partnership members and guests about upcoming City Budget priorities.  How will the City pay for stormwater management, transit, schools, and other important items?  Will development in Eisenhower East be facilitated in order to increase the tax base?  When is Corridor C bus rapid transit likely to be implemented?  These and many other questions are on the table for discussion at the Eisenhower Partnership’s Premier event of the year.

Sponsorships are available – information will be sent to members soon.

EP Sets Goals for 2018

At its January 2018 meeting, the Eisenhower Partnership Board of Directors set two priorities for 2018:

  1. Increasing our membership and improving services to members
  2. Increasing our outreach and influence in the City

The Board and the Partnership’s Committees will be working on several new initiatives this year.  We will report on these as they move forward.  In the meantime, we encourage members to sign up for one of these active committees:

  • Membership (Chair, Chhaya Muth, Access National Bank)
  • Events and Programs (Chair, Bob Neuman, JM Zell Co)
  • Planning and Transportation (Co-Chairs Frank Cole, SHRM, and Agnès Artemel, Artemel & Associates)
  • Communications (Chair, Daniel Beason, Townes at Cameron Parke)
  • Special Project (Chair, Scott Kersjes)

Planning Commission and City Council Actions in January 2018

New Commercial Parking Standards have been approved by the City Council.  This is a collections of changes and updates for office, hotel, retail, and restaurant uses that will apply to any project applying for building permits, special use permits, or development approvals.  The new standards create parking maximums, encourage shared parking, and reduce the need for businesses to request parking reductions, saving time and money for small businesses.

Stonebridge Carras’ proposal for 1.7 million square feet of mixed use development, to include three residential towers and a Wegman’s on Blocks 4 and 5 of the Eisenhower East Plan (Hoffman Town Center) was approved as a conceptual use different from previous plans for the site.  A more detailed and project-specific Development Special Use Permit is still required, with public hearings possible as soon as March 2018.

Eisenhower East Plan to Begin FY 2019

A first phase of revisions to the Eisenhower East Small Area Plan was recently completed and included amendments for flexibility for residential, retail, and hotel uses on certain parcels based on changes in office market demand.  The second phase will focus on additional density, land use conversions, retail strategy, streetscape and public realm improvements, options for affordable housing, and interim uses.  The goal of Eisenhower East to remain one of the City’s “economic engines” remains unchanged.

Eisenhower West Implementation

In the more than 2 years since adoption of the Eisenhower West Small Area Plan, the Implementation work group has met a handful of times.  The next meeting is scheduled for February12 to discuss the findings of the air quality analysis at Covanta, receive an update on an infrastructure plan, and see the initial engineering designs for a Multi-Modal bridge deemed necessary for full development of a large site on Pickett Street.  The meeting is being held from 7 to 9 pm at the Community Center in Cameron Station.  All are welcome to attend.  For more information: https://www.alexandriava.gov/planning/info/default.aspx?id=90965
