Late Summer 2017

Save the Date!  EP Fall Event Lineup

Three special events are on our calendar for Fall 2017.  First in line on September 21, Roof with a View at Paradigm’s spectacular Parc Meridian apartments, an exclusive event for Eisenhower Partnership members and their guests.  The event features food, drink, networking, and panoramic views of the Eisenhower Avenue corridor from the pool deck (no swimming however).  October brings us the Yappy Hour on October 26, in conjunction with Citywide Dogtoberfest events; this dog-friendly event is open to friends of the Eisenhower Partnership as well as members.  Proceeds will benefit a local animal charity.  Finally, on November 15, the Eisenhower Partnership invites members and friends to its Annual Meeting, to be held at SHRM in Carlyle.  Check the EP Website for Event Registration soon.

Carlyle Events Continue Through Early Fall

Carlyle continues its popular Wake Up Wednesdays through the end of September, from 7 am to 9:30 am in the King Street Metro Tunnel.  The event features free coffee with the purchase of a dougnut.  For more information, see

Grab the family or a group of friends and enjoy some great flicks under the stars. This outdoor film festival takes place at sundown on the first Saturday of each month between July and October in John Carlyle Square Park, 300 John Carlyle Street. Don't forget the lawn chairs and picnic basket!  Remaining movies are:

  • September 2 - When Harry Met Sally (sundown at 7:36 p.m.)
  •  October 7 - The Birds (sundown at 6:41 p.m.)

AlexRenew Offers Children’s Programming

Eisenhower Partnership member AlexRenew is offering Moxie’s Monthly Story Hour every 4thThursday from 10 am to 11 am at its headquarters at 1800 Limerick Street (south of Eisenhower Avenue near Hooff’s Run Drive).  Moxie is Alexandria’s water-cleaning, nitrogen-eating hero, and she will be reading children’s stories in AlexRenew’s educational lobby.  Story Hour will get attendees excited about inventing, exploring watery worlds, and learning all about clean water.  For more information,  AlexRenew’s lobby also has fascinating exhibits about how we clean and use our water, including a large aquarium.  Don’t forget to check out the green wall composed of living plants that rises two stories.

New to the Avenue

Bright red awnings labeled Xfinity appear to indicate a Comcast store is coming to 2371 Eisenhower Avenue in the Meridian at Eisenhower Station building.

Floor & Décor is making good progress on renovating a former warehouse at 4607 Eisenhower Avenue; an opening is planned late fall of 2017.  The company provides flooring materials displayed in a showroom format.  It also has a store at Potomac Mills.

Here for a while, but maybe you weren’t aware of them are two interesting businesses in the West End of Eisenhower Avenue:  Eisenhower Consignments (4926C Eisenhower) and Artistic Artifacts, a Fair Trade importer of creative art supplies from around the world (4750 Eisenhower Avenue).  They are worth a visit.

Former Federal Office Building Slated for Major ReDo

Perseus Realty is proposing a daring reuse of the 610,000 sf former Hoffman 2 building at 200 Stovall; this is one of the buildings whose workforce has moved out as a result of the BRAC changes adopted in the mid-2000s.  Plans call for converting the building from office to primarily residential uses, including 512 apartments on 12 stories, three levels of above-grade parking in the building, and 26,000 sf of retail on the ground level.  The proposal will get its public hearing at the City’s Planning Commission Meeting on September 7.

EP Website Features a New Welcome Page

Sure, you can fire up your i-Phone or Galaxy and figure out what the closest restaurant is.  But are you curious about what’s available to residents and businesses on the Eisenhower Avenue corridor?  Are there services you might not be aware of, or carry-outs hiding in an office building?  Are there any unique retailers?  And how do you get around once you are here?  Is there anything historic?  Are there any parks?  These answers and more are on the Welcome tab accessed from’s home page.  Eisenhower Partnership members are listed in bold type.  Check it out.  We welcome corrections and additions too; if you’d like to comment on the welcome page (constructive comments only, please), write to eisenhowerppp@gmail.comWe will continue to update and refine the pages to be a relevant resource for Eisenhower Avenue information.

AlexRenew Project will Affect Holland Lane

Alexandria Renew Enterprises is cleaning and inspecting the Commonwealth Interceptor, the underground pipe that conveys wastewater flow from the City’s sewer lines to AlexRenew. Periodic cleaning and inspection of this line is an important maintenance project that helps reduce the likelihood of pipe failure or related problems. They’ll be in our neighborhood soon.  More information is available on
WHEN:  The project starts along Commonwealth Avenue in late summer, moves down Holland Lane and terminates at the Alexandria Renew facility south of Eisenhower Ave by the end of the year. Work will be done weekdays during the day. There may be night work, which will be coordinated with the City and compliant with City Code.
HOW:  This work involves using high-pressure water jets and a vacuum truck to remove debris and sediment from the trunk sewer. A robotic camera will inspect the line to assess its condition. You may hear high pressure water jets or see trucks from Video Pipe Services, AlexRenew’s vendor for this project.
