February 2017

Eisenhower Partnership invites you
to have “Breakfast with
the City Manager”
on March 30

The Eisenhower Partnership is pleased to announce the date for its 2017 Breakfast with the City Manager, one of its annual premium events.  City Manager Mark Jinks has been invited to discuss items on his proposed FY2018 budget that could affect those who work, live or invest along Eisenhower Avenue.  This year, we are particularly pleased that we can bring you the event in the south auditorium of the US Patent and Trademark Office, 600 Dulany Street.  Register now! Event date: March 30, 2017 from 8 am to 10 am.  Breakfast will be served.

Cameron Run Park planning meeting
draws 25

The Eisenhower Partnership on February 21 sponsored the first outreach meeting by the consultant team for Cameron Run Park.  Numerous members of the Eisenhower Partnership attended this meeting, including several residents of the Townes at Cameron Parke who are members through their Homeowners Association.  After listening to a presentation by John Fennell, project manager for Michael Baker Jr., the City’s contractor, attendees asked many questions, including several about the financial relationship between the City of Alexandria and the Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NOVAParks) which has held a lease for the parkland since 1981.  Attendees expressed concern about lack of maintenance in the park adjacent to Lake Cook, and indicated they would prefer uses other than the wave pool in the main portion of the park.  A year-round building with a covered pool and activity rooms was suggested.  Several additional input meetings will be held before the project’s findings are presented to the City Council prior to its summer recess.

If you missed this meeting and are interested in providing your thoughts, there are a couple of opportunities:

1)      The next meeting is on Thursday, March 2 at 7 pm at the Beatley Library, 5005 Duke Street
2)     Comments can be provided by writing to the Eisenhower Partnership at (we will consolidate them and pass them on to the consultant team)

EP Board sets priorities for 2017

The Eisenhower Partnership Board of Directors held a mini-retreat on February 22, led by Julie Jakopic of iLead Strategies, with the aim of setting priorities for 2017.  In the course of spirited discussion, the theme that emerged is Advocate, Inform, Connect!   Our work program for the year will be based on this theme.  We already have a robust calendar of events coming up throughout the year and are tracking closely the projects that have been announced and could affect those who work or live on Eisenhower Avenue.

Have you noticed the construction?

The NSF building in Eisenhower East is looking fabulous, and will be occupied this summer.  Rushmark is “moving dirt” on its residential project at 2901 Eisenhower Avenue.  In the near future, look for activity at the Carlyle Plaza residential site (south of Eisenhower Avenue near the Eisenhower Circle), and at the Floor and Décor warehouse (near the Eisenhower Connector).  Several other projects are in the conceptual stages, including a couple in the former Hoffman landholdings and one in the extreme west.
